GoddesJuno 2Q Newsletter

Welcome to the newly expanded edition of the Juno Foundation’s quarterly newsletter.

We continue to use this online forum to inform our goddesses (supporters) about upcoming Juno news and business, including a message from our President and Grant Committee. We hope our expanded edition will enlighten and inform our audience not only about Juno, but also about other exciting events happening in our own gay community and beyond.

New features include:

  • A Juno Partner Profile. Hey… who are these goddesses anyway? We’ll share with you what they do and how they contribute to the Juno Foundation.
  • The Scoop on Escaping. How do you escape? Get away to your favorite beach? Serve it up with tennis? Tee it up with golf? Dive into a book? Throw on your favorite album (oh... sorry CD) and crank up the volume? Maybe take in the Thee-ay-ter? (as they say here in the south…) Well, no matter how you do it,we will give our goddesses some tips and fun facts on what their next escape might be.
  • Dish and Dine. We will review a local restaurant/café.  Even though many of us will consider going out to eat… an escape – we all do it so often, we thought it deserved a section all it’s own.

We hope that you will forward our newsletter along to family and friends… enjoy!

The J Report
By Genie Wood, President of The Juno Foundation of Orlando

2Q was an exciting time for the Juno Foundation. Fresh off the heels of our successful gala in February, there was no time to rest on our laurels. Our quarterly board meeting focused on new ways to raise funds. New efforts include: smaller in-home fundraisers (private dinners or parties) hosted by current Juno supporters; a fall golf tournament/scramble; and seeking out corporate sponsorships.

Paying It Forward
Testimonial
Juno Grant Recipient

I have many reasons to be thankful right now. Thankful to be alive. Thankful to have completed one year of invasive tests, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Thankful to have such a wonderful partner, family and friends by my side.  But I am also very thankful to have found a foundation such as Juno to turn to for both emotional and financial support during the most difficult of times after being diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer.

Dish and Dine

  Midnight Blue

Located at the intersection with the dancing ladies fountain on Washington Street in Thornton Park, Midnight Blue Bar and Grill is quickly becoming THE PLACE to be.

Midnight Blue is the sister restaurant to Blue Bistro Bar and Grill on Mills Avenue.  Recently opened by Juno goddesses – respected Chef Jephanie Foster and her business partner Vanda Honqsranont - these savvy businesswomen have gone all out in making this new little jewel, a casual, comfortable and eclectic spot in the heart of Thornton Park.  With hip décor, a fun tapas-like menu and full bar - it’s like a slice out of West Hollywood. Outdoor air conditioning and overhead fans make it comfortable even when it's humid. King size floral arrangements and a long curvy yellow community table that winds through the center of the outdoor space evoke an artistic ambiance that is the perfect accompaniment for the creative and delicious food.

Music

Either you like the Rolling Stones or they’re not so much on your Ipod.  Well, that may just change.  Think: A long tall glass of traditional Bossa Nova music, pour in some Mick and the Stones, crushed ice and stir slowly- no shakin’ here- and what you’ll end up sipping on is Bossa N’ Stones: The Electro-Bossa Songbook of the Rolling Stones.
