The J Report
By Genie Wood, President of The Juno Foundation of Orlando
It’s that time of year again… the holidays, when we come together with family and friends to celebrate and count our blessings. If you’re lucky, you have many things to be thankful for but it’s also important to remember there are many in our community who are not as fortunate. So let’s remember those that could use a helping hand… participate in a toy drive at work, choose an angel from the Angel Tree at the grocery store, give food to the Coalition for the Homeless, or drop a few dollars in the Salvation Army bucket. You may also consider donating your time to Juno – whatever you choose will make a difference. Check out our Volunteer Opportunities section of the website for more information.
That’s the Spirit of Juno… helping others. I look forward to seeing you at our gala on Feb. 10th, 2007 and sharing with you our annual Juno update and more!
Best holiday wishes to all of our Juno goddesses. |

Grant Committee Update
Thanks to all who help spread the word about Juno in and around the state. The Grant Committee is pleased to announce that another grant has been given in the third quarter of this year. Each grant is made possible by those who believe in Juno and help generate the "buzz" about what the Juno Foundation is doing in the lesbian community.
The fourth quarter promises to generate more assistance to goddesses in need. We currently have two grants undergoing the approval process and another one entering the pipeline. I look forward to making these announcements official in the next newsletter.
A big THANK YOU to all who support the Juno Foundation’s mission in word, deed and monetary support. Juno could not help others without your generous donations. As always, if you know anyone battling cancer and may be in need of a grant or require more information about applying for a grant, please contact Tracy Harris at 407-694-5658. |

Dish and Dine
With the opening of the Beacon, Thornton Park’s newest night spot, downtown Orlando is beginning to feel more and more like South Beach these days. Located on the corner of Pine Street and Eola Drive at the Sanctuary Building, you can’t miss the outside seating area - or rather “lounging area”. Guests can stretch out on one of the many outdoor "Lounge Beds” and sip and dish the evening away.
Inside is a real treat too with sensual lighting, private banquettes with metallic fabrics and a leather bar to boot! The appetizer menu is split with before/after appetizers. Before 3:00pm offers Fancy Oysters, Lump Crab Sliders and even gourmet Tomato soup and a Chevre Grilled Cheese sandwich. After 5:00pm you can find fabulous salads, duck confit and even a filet. The menu is designed to be shared with friends therefore the focus is on smaller portions so the plates can be passed with ease. There is a happy hour every day from 4-7pm with $6 martinis and $10 off bottles of wine.

The Scoop On Escaping |
Books
It all started as a community art project. Called the most trusted man in America, Frank Warren began handing out postcards to perfect strangers and leaving them in public places--asking people to write down their secrets- a secret they had never told anyone and mail it to him, anonymously.
The response was tremendous.

Music
The Holidays are here. It’s time to don your gay apparel and update your Holiday music collection. Some new additions to this year’s offering are:
Sarah McLachlan- Wintersong. There is a reason her voice has been compared to a serene angel amidst the raging storm. Her haunting crooning pairs beautifully with the simple arrangements of either the piano, acoustic guitar and even the banjo. Most are impressive renditions of the traditional Christmas carols like Silent Night and What Child Is This but a nice surprise is John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is Over).

NOVEMBER- DECEMBER 2006
The Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Festival presents Frankenstein, The Modern Prometheus.
By Jim Helsinger from the novel by Mary Shelley
October 11 – November 26, 2006
Goldman Theater
The story of Frankenstein, The Modern Prometheus is told through the collected letters of a British explorer to his sister. As a student of medical science with an increasing focus on the act of creation as a possible solution to finding a cure for death, Victor Frankenstein experiments at reviving lifeless matter. Finally he prepares the ultimate experiment—the creation of an entire human being, which leads to unforeseen consequences, vengeance, and his own demise.
