Bette Midler - Cool Yule
Bette Midler- Cool Yule. The Divine Miss M is at it again. Another great compilation of traditional Christmas songs and some real swingin’ finger poppin’ songs like the title track Cool Yule. Going back to her Hawaiian roots she bounces into Mele Kalikimaka, which is Merry Christmas in Hawaiian and made famous by Bing Crosby years ago. A duet with the silky smooth Johnny Mathis is fabulous, but the real treat is the holiday remake/remix of Bette’s 1990 hit From a Distance.
Wynonna Judd- A Classic Christmas
If you only buy one Holiday CD this year- it should be this one. Wy? You ask? Because in true Wy form, she belts them out with her own Wy style with embellishments and inflections like only Wy can! It’s not about “country” on this CD and yet it will not disappoint her faithful country fan base. Ave Maria is amazing in its native tongue, as well as Emmanuel... they could very well bring you to tears.

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass- Christmas Album
A swingin’ 70’s collection of seasonal favorites only Herb Alpert and the TB can master. Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bells and Sleigh Ride have a lively samba arrangement that will have your toe tapping in no time. My Favorite Things with its distinctive stop and start arrangement and several breaks in tempo could clearly be the favorite cut for many on the album. The only complaint about HA & the TB Christmas Album is that it’s too short. Running a little over 30 minutes it’s over before you know it. So just set it to repeat and you’re good for another run for that kitschy 1970’s sound that can’t help but put you in the Holiday Spirit.
